CPU: not really sure atm, check intel extreme black box CPUs they are designed for hard overclocks
graphics: ATi 4870x2 (inb4nvidiafanbois), there's rumours of a gtx290 soon though... wait and see
RAM: any low latency DDR2 1066 should handle pretty much any overclock
HDD: 300Gb raptor
Windows: preference really but i wouldn't waste such a high spec machine on xp

CPU: Id really NEVER go for a Core2Extreme... but a high-end Core2Quadhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130
Graphics Card: Not just one, but buy 2!!! of these! and you can play any game on extremely high settings with 8x AA (maybe?). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103066
RAM: You will probably have to get atleast 4gb.
HDD: like he said, huge raptor HDD
Windows: Definetely Vista 64bit....

You also didn't ask for the motherboard and powersupply (Id suggest atleast 700watts... this seems like an energy hog)

Yeah but with PSU's, never go on wattage alone. A larger 'number' is all you're looking at their, and the amps on the all important 12v rail could be crap. Especially as you're gonna be powering a hungry graphy card. Make sure to check the ampege is sufficient for the card, by checking the PSU spec against the recommended Wink

It's amazing how the pricing of a cpu can drop.

The Core 2 Extreme QX9770 @ 3.2GHz is around $1500
The Q9650 @ 3.0GHz is around $550
It's 200MHz slower, but still the price is half of that of the extreme!

For a Q9550 @2.8 is around $350 the same as the
Q9450 @ 2.66GHz. Before the Q9550 cost around the price of a Q9650.

As for HDDs, raptor is what you want then go ahead, but a drive with larger capacity would be better off like a WD 640GB.

And Raptor drives are only as good, but if you want something better than Raptor go with SAS.

The extreme is for overclockers and the multiplyer is not locked unlike the other regular chips, they are limited to 8.5-9.5? i forgot

Yes, the extreme edition has their multiplier unlocked, same with the AMD Black Edition.
But the extreme to me are used by those who's got more money than brains.

A overclocker would actually get the slowest and cheapset cpu and see how much they can get out of that cpu.
A guy with a Celeron D 352 once manage to overclock it up to 7.8GHz.

Don't you all forget about SSD disks, those are much faster, especially when using in raid.

are you really are going to build a major gaming rig?
i mean, you can't just get one good part and all the others suck, which bottlenecks it.
