That 6 Core cpu is for the Xeon based workstation/server cpus. Desktops won't see that for who knows how long.
There are several reviews on them if you look around the net.
heres one
As for the most cores, Intel made a cpu with 80cores once.

The only reason they have multiple cores in one is because if they go any higher than 3.6 Ghz in one core it tends to become unstable over time and eventually melt or w/e. So they decided to release more cores in your processor. The only problem with that is that your FSB is not large enough for all of yours cores to receive data and send it out smoothly. Imagine a highway full of cars moving pretty well. Now reduce that highway down to 2 lanes, what do you get...a traffic jam. By now, if what Psych said was true, they probably found a material to withstand more that 3.6 Ghz of processing power (Right now they are currently made out of silicon). Then the whold dam cycle will start again -.-

Intel's experimental 80 core processor ran at 5GHz per core, though I'm not sure of what kind of cooling/amount of power/etc was used for it.
Also, when Intel releases their Nehalem processors, the FSB will be replaced with something conceptually very similar to AMD's HyperTransport, eliminating the problem of a bottleneck.
