ok so finally after all the damm refomatting (3 days) cause a whole bunch of shyt diddent work i finally got windows xp home edition service pack 1..(i'll upgrade later)..
now i cant get internet working.....it worked before te refomatting and obviously works on this computer but not on my desktop(wired modem)..
i tried everything does anyone knw whats wrong? |

Run something like everest diagnostics, sisoft sandra, or belarc software to find out what your motherboard is. They may even identify the exact chipset of the NIC and then you can google that info to find a download. However if you get stuck, post up your mobo info and anything else that might be relevant. Someone will check it out no doubt

you'll notice that the service pack 2 update can actually make a lot of differences, and it could fix this problem. i had networking problems on one of my computers with sp1, and when i updated it worked fine.
also, what do you mean by it doesn't work? is there a connection icon in your tray with your cross? can you even see your NIC in device manager? _________________

allright well basically when i just plug the ethernet cord from my modem to my pc nothing pops up and nothing is reconized but when i use the usb cable it works so.... idk what to do.
I dont really understand your guys post on what i do i updated to service pack 3!!!! and it still doesnt work. |

try getting the drivers, or try to go to command prompts and do:
ipconfig /renew |

| ok it just says windows xp configuration when i only have the ethernet cord in but when i put in the usb cable one it gives me my ip adress and whatnot. |

if you have windows media edition, run the media setup thing. it might fix your internet. _________________
