graphic card driver, if you're on xp and your graphic driver stops responding it gives BSOD.

Overheating comes to my mind

Numerous other reasons...

Not overheating as far as i know.
On my pc it just shuts down, keeping the fans spinning and locking up the power button.

run on safemode,
if it works, it is a virus, not overheating or drivers
most likely drivers though

I believe a critical error within the driver of the graphic card and/or the sound card. I used to get BSOD's for my sound card on my old computer.

then its probably the new catalyst 8.9 that is causing bsod in-games... maybe time to downgrade again Sad

I know it can cause a BSOD.
My friend gets one every time he plays a bit heavier game
and after looking into it, it was caused by overheating (GPU)

Overheating GPU doesn't always result in a BSOD, but in some cases..

My old computer's catalyst is on a really old version, because DirectX 8 hasn't been working since that version. I hate ATI. Sad
