I figured I should mention this system so that people can understand it and prevent their own accounts from being broken using it.

Servers usually block you for a period of time if you try to log into an account with several wrong passwords in a set amount of time. So, how do people get around this?

    * ARP/IP/DNS Spoofing - If you know what you're doing, it really isn't hard to use spoofing to create a bi-directional network connection without ever giving away your real IP address.

    * Anonymity Networks - Distributed networks such as Tor hide your real IP by tunneling your connection through a whole bunch of other clients before it gets to the target server. Each time you reconnect, you have a brand new IP address! The problem is that routing through these nodes can be slow.

    * IPv6/Toredo - Depending on your ISP, the target server and the routers and network switches in between, it may be possible to get round certain restrictions by tunneling IPv6 connections using Toredo. However, IPv6 is in its early stages and is widely unsupported.

So, you've spoofed your identity and can try as many passwords as you like without getting banned. The problem is that brute forcing and dictionary hacking are time consuming and don't often yield results. There's a way around this. Instead of trying 300,000 passwords on a small set of users, try a small set of passwords on 300,000 user accounts. If you choose a small set of common simple passwords, you are likely to find quite a few accounts that are vulnerable. Common passwords include pass, password, letmein, passw0rd, p4ssw0rd and the user account name.

Now that you've read and understood this, you can protect your own accounts!

Choose a password that contains letters and numbers, preferably something completely random like 'g30xpw1n' or 'extra0rd1n4ry'. To make it much more secure, put some random punctuation on the end (an exclamation mark is easiest to remember) or replace a letter s with a $ (dollar) symbol. Make sure that your password is at least 7 letters long! It takes less than 3 minutes to break a 5 letter alphanumeric password on a modern PC, but may take over a day to break a 7 letter one.

A simple way to create a memorable yet secure password is to take something simple like your surname and convert a letter in it to a number, then append a memorable date like your birthday. Say your surname is Andrews, and your birthday is 04/07/1974 - your password could be andr3ws04071974.

General game hacking is usally about 'hacking' games.
Not about account protection.
