I'm planning to upgrade my comp 9not get a new one) which parts should i upgrade?
(I know my computer sucks, and it's not new but I'm going to upgrade it after i get the info AND buy a new one in the future)
processor name: intel pentium 4 cpu 2.80 ghz
videocard name: intel 82915G/GV/901GL Express chipset family
Installed memory: 1,014.08MB
Motherboard vendor: Dell Inc
Motherboard Model: 0JC474
Im on windows xp service pack 2

I'm not sure what else to include. Thanks for your help.

Get a better processor(Dual cores are exemplary)

And if you want get 2 gigs of ram, it helps a lot.

What graphics card you have?

Your single core has plenty of power.
Graphic card sux.
You can take a consideration on upgrading your ram and video card, but it's better off as Willy said buy yourself a new system since this system really isn't worth the upgrade.

Your mobo's Intel 915 chipset will not support dual core cpus.
Dual cores are supported staring with the Intel 945s Express and so on.

Cheapest thing is to add one more gig of ram. If you like this computer though, add the ram, processor, add a card.

I would say a graphics card would give that system a bit longer life, but then you'd likely need a new PSU too.

I would recommend a completely new system, you likely can't upgrade much in it without basically throwing money away on obsolete hardware.

Doesn't the 915 support Pentium D's? I thought it did, just not C2D's...

I think it should be fine with a few Pentium D processors. They're based on the NetBurst architecture, although they are dual cores.

Yeah, just hang a bit for your new computer. Investing money in this would be a waste considering you're going to be getting an entirely new computer soon.

If you game, you'll probably find the most performance increase by upgrading your graphics card. But other than that, you won't pull much more performance out of single-part upgrades. More RAM won't really help, nor will a slightly better processor.
