As you can see, my ISP sucks so I would like to change.
The cost to close the contract I'm in now costs $300, so my parents are pretty layed back on the idea of changing.
So, I need some help to convince them that changing plans to a faster company will actually save money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now the plan is:
ADSL2+
Speed: Around 26kbps/5-6kbps (I have no idea why it's so slow.)
Phone: $45 approx.
Internet: $55 approx. (Unlimited downloads, Capped at 1GB)
Total: Around 100-110 big ones every month.
Extra info: Router connected to an old computer.
Desktop computer with no handicaps hardware-wise.
Dream Plan:
ADSL2+
Speed: Around 1mbps+
Phone: Under $45 (including rental and calls)
Internet: Under $55 (No extra fees for over downloading/uploading and don't mind a cap rate.)
Total: Under $100 per month so I can convince parents to change.
Extra Info: Don't care about on-peak and off-peak cuz I use the net at random times.
Preferably no contract, but if not, contracts are O.K
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried searching using http://broadbandguide.com.au/ but most plans that this site recommended were iiNet, which uses wireless (don't like the idea because people can leech your net) and VoiP.
Maybe theres some other company that was not listed on that site which you could tell me about.
Thanks

Im Using iiNet
It's fast enough to download music at a reasonable rate, play most online games with minimal lag and watch movies online with no need to buffer (if the servers fast enough)
| iinet wrote: | | home 3 - $49.95 ADSL2+ speeds 10GB + 20GB $59.90 | ($40 setup (includes Modem), and it's $60 dollars to cancel within first 6 months
That's my current plan, I never get cut down to the low speed (download 500MB+ stuff at night) $80 a month, and comes with Voip which has INSANE low rates, here are the rates on Voip calls:
Here are the plans
Hope this helped, finally here are my speeds (the cables are actually pretty old, gonna be upgraded 2009 )
...will post soon...

Does iiNet use the phone line for internet or does it use wireless?
Don't really like wireless cuz ppl can leech.

It uses the phone line, you have a phone line splitter so your old land line works as well as your Voip, no wireless

Sounds great.
I've never used VoiP before, is there and lag/errors that could happen when you use it?
Also, if you go over the d/l limit, dyou get capped or get charged?
And can I use my old "NetComm NB5 Modem Router" with this new plan?

1. With Voip, if you are say...downloading ALOT at once, there may be a fuzzy sound in the background, or some sort of interference. Normally its great quality
2. If you go over the d/l limit you get capped to dial-up speed, but it shouldn't happen with the $60 plan
3. You need to use a iiNet modem, it comes with the setup and you need the setup as well

Check out Internode.
Edit: AND DO NOT GO WITH DODO NO MATTER HOW DESPERATE YOU ARE.
We first went with them when we decided to (finally) upgrade from dial-up, and rang fortnightly, requesting them to set up our internet after we first payed (we rang because they don't answer e-mails, we learned that the hard way). They kept telling us to ring Telstra / wait for Dodo to ring us back. They never rang us back, and Telstra said each time that that they have nothing to do with it, it's up to Dodo to get it working. Eventually we gave up ringing and began waiting for Dodo to ring us back, after another 2 months they never did. We paid for that 2 months, as well as the previous 3 that we had spent requesting for them to get the god-damn internet we were paying for to work. Then when we tried to cancel, they would either say 'wait for us to ring you back' (obviously they never rang back) or they would literally hang up on us at the mention of cancelling. We had to contact http://www.tio.com.au/ to get them to allow us to cancel our plan, and give us a full refund.
Then we switched to Internode, our internet was working perfectly within 2 days.

Seriously, 2 days????
My ISP took 1month from the point of calling them to searching google.
Internode sounds like it has good customer support and prices, from the website.
Also it seems to have better features like no on/off peak, no contract and
a common internet speed across all plans.
Overall, a much more professional site and appeal than others.
