I've got a Q6600 and ive heard that people overclocked it to 3Ghz+ with the stock fan
I want to do that to xD
How dangerous is it to do that?

It is possible but it will waste many years of ur CPU's life expectancy.
I'd buy your self a another Fan to keep it "COOLER"

It's possible, but never overclock that high on a stock cooler. People probably go that high just to see how far it can go. Just go like 1 or 2 ghzs higher.

It's a bit dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. For example, if you ramp up the volts dangerously high (1.5v and above), you could cause major heating problems with the stock cooler, and seriously reduce your CPU lifespan. But if you are careful, you should get a good 600MHz+ overclock on the stock CPU cooler, as long as you have a good motherboard and BIOS.

Assuming you have control of your BIOS and your current load temperatures are still okay (at least 10C headroom), enter the BIOS and lock the PCI/AGP/PCI-e frequency (PCI is 33MHz, AGP is 66MHz, PCI-e is 100MHz). Raise the core clock to 333MHz (although it would be safer to try 300MHz, then go up from there). Set the RAM to CPU clock ratio to 2.0 (or manually set it at 667MHz). Don't touch the CPU multiplier or the CPU voltage (you should be stable at stock). You might want to relax the RAM latency/increase RAM voltage to remove any RAM related limitations. If your motherboard isn't capable of handling the high FSB, add voltage to the northbridge (known as MCH on Gigabyte motherboards). Save and exit, then check temperatures as well as checking if your overclock was successful (note that Intel SpeedStep drops the multiplier to 6 while under low CPU usage).

water cooling not works well, but looks cool to hehe, just make sure theres no leek in the pipe when you use....dat would suck

It's life will be shortened, but I will go way past (usually) factory standards.

My cpu is now usually around 40 degrees Celsius
Dunno if its cool or not

But I'd really like to overclock it to 3.0Ghz

Btw im buying a new psu soon, because the one I've got now really really really really sucks (just 270 watts XD)
