The new ATI cards are the best price/preformance.
4870 and 4850.

| Trying to play those types of games on a 2400pro, it's probably better it didn't run.

you suck!
the 4850/70 offer the best price/performance ratio in there class.

lol, i had the same card as you few years ago, it could play counter strike source, HL2, HL 1&2. try to overclock it with ATI tools, it helped he got 5 more frames/s without any problems

I don't really know anything about overclocking, but I did apparently fail to overclock once, my computer kept crashing and it said overclock failed. I don't remember actually changing anything though, is it even worth to try with a computer like this?
Mainboard : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P5P800
Chipset : Intel i865PE
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 530J @ 3000 MHz
Physical Memory : 512 MB (1 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 9250 (RV280)
Hard Disk : Maxtor (123 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B
Monitor Type : BenQ BenQ FP731 - 17 inches
Network Card : Marvell Semiconductor (Was: Galileo Technology Ltd) Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper)
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2

Provided it has proper overclocking options, yes. If you can lock the PCI-e to 100MHz and PCI to 33MHz then it's safe to attempt to overclock. Once you've set those, just jack up the FSB by about 10MHz, boot up the computer and run PRIME95 for 10 minutes or so. If there's no errors, tack on 10MHz more until you get errors, then back off 5MHz and try again. If it runs for 8 hours without any error then your overclock is 100% stable. Just keep an eye on your temperatures, as long as they don't get out of hand and since you won't be changing any voltages, you'll be fine.

How do I lock the PCI-e and PCI? In the bios screen?
What kind of temps would be "out of hand" btw?

Yes, there will hopefully be an option to set the frequencies for each or "lock" them. If you aren't able to do this, when you overclock your CPU it will overclock EVERYTHING in the system, which needless to say will lead to data corruption and severe instability.

Your motherboard uses AGP 8x interface, which IIRC, normally operates at 66MHz. There should be an option if you look around.
You'd have to look at the Intel Pentium 4 LGA775 Prescott core datasheets to find out. I already did the research, you can hit up to 67.7C (roughly 70C). Check your current load temperatures (100% CPU load) to make sure you have some room for the added temperature and stress overclocking brings.

Start up the computer (or restart), then hit Del (or the appropriate key). There should be a screen where the BIOS is loading up during the first POST stage, and it should display the motherboard manufacturer logo, along with the BIOS-entering key.
Software CPU overclocking is worse than BIOS overclocking. It can lead to system instability, and permanent hardware damage (most new motherboards can reverse harmful overclocks, even without replacing the CMOS battery).
