|
|
I bought my pc with windows vista home premium pre-installed.
when i turned on my pc i was prompted to make a back-up using acer erecovery.
I hate the back-up so much, i have to open up my pc everytime i want to install my os and unplug 2 of my hdd's.
If i borow a legal Vista Home premium disc and use the cd key on my case will it work?
If i need to call microsoft what is the Australian number?

Here is the AUS number for microsoft.
13 20 58
I found it inside the CD case that I have. And if you're gonna borrow a legal disk from someone and use your code, it will work. But only on the same PC as the Vista that was pre-installed.

If I we're you I'll just create the Acer eRecovery disc and be done with it.
The advantage of that is at least you get a set of disc with of your original OS, just in case your hard drives poops out.
In the past they provided the recovery disc, but now it's all imaged into your hard drive.
As for installing your own Vista, just borrow a OEM version from your friend.
And type in the key found on your computer. Since the OEM Vista disc contains all the editions (Starter, Home Premium/N, Business/N, Ultimate), the COA you typed will automatically change to the edition you want to install.

why bother using a leagal copy of vista? i downloaded the chinese simplified version of vista ( cracked of course ) and burned it on a dvd. it worked perfectly, no need to to enter cd-key, windows update works, but I never downloaded Genuine Advantage from it.

It's because he got's a Acer system which will mostly likely have a product key. As for this "crack" version... Well there really isn't a crack version.
All version of Vista are the same. You can skip the product key on the legal version (XP with SP3 slipstreamed can do this too). The only thing I've heard which makes it a crack version is if you apply this patch which prevents the countdown. But I've heard SP1 corrupts that patch and enables it.
Don't know if that's true as I've got a legal 64bit version of Vista here!
