I am pretty sure it depends on your hardware...

Yeah. That's the whole point of a driver; it interacts with the OS and a certain piece of hardware.

Just go to the website for the piece of hardware that you need, and look under the support section.

i personally wouldn't downgrade to xp if your computer was built for xp. you're going to find it hard getting all of your drivers to run smoothly, and i think it's just plain stupid. anyway, if you go through with it, search your motherboards site for the xp drivers you'll need. if it's a laptop then you'll be able to google the model and find the drivers.

What do you mean Windows update sucks balls? Maybe it's because you got yourself some bootleg XP and that why windows update sucks balls.
Sometime when I can't find a driver or screw up on a driver installation. I go to windows update, click on the custom installation and windows update will automatically find the drivers or fix corrupted installation automatically.

Windows update is a last restort if you cannot find the drivers you need on the web.

Even if Compaq does not have the XP drivers for your system, you may still have a change of finding it at each of the component's website.

According to your system specs, the graphics it uses is a nForce 6150SE
For this it's also a Nvidia chipset which may include additional drivers such as Ethernet, motherboard's system resources, and so on.
Go to the Nvidia's site and in the download sections select the following:

nForce>nForce4 Series>nForce 430/GeForce 6150SE>Driver>Windows XP>your native OS language

For sound it's Realtek so you can go to the Realtek website and download the sound drivers from there.

Realtek takes a long a$$ time so use Google and see if you can find an alternative download site.

Most new system uses Realtek HD Audio so just search for that.

You will also need the dual core optimizer and processor driver.
And you can find that at the AMD's website.
