I know I'm supposed to do the CHKDSK, but I was just wondering, if I do this, will my files be OK? My mom has lots of pictures she doesnt want deleted and my dad wants to backup the whole hard drive before booting it up and scanning it for mistakes Rolling Eyes anyway, if I do the CHKDSK, will our data and files be intact?

Yes. CHKDSK does not rape your files.

CHKDSK doesn't modify/delete/damage your files, I've done it tons of times.

and it will work for my problem? (the windows\system32\config\system corrupt or not found)

use "Chkdsk /f" to fix errors, but i doubt it would fix your problem. and chkdsk checks your disk, it's not going to delete your files...at least you're gonna hope not. Cool
