Hey, so recently i've been having computer issues (my mouse clicks by itself, locks me out from logging into windows, slow, background changes itself, desktop items disappearing) and now my PF Usage from windows task manager is too high. when im playing runescape its usually about 300mb, but i just checked it with nothing at all opened at it was 1.16gb this freaked me out considering the other stuff. i also got a little pop up saying my virtual memory was too low. I'm not too good with computers and im worried this could be a serious problem. Anyone have any advise?

EDIT: now i'm noticing in firefox a bunch of random tabs for the same page im veiwing pops up, btw if i reformat my hd, do i lose all programs and have to reinstall windows xp and all that stuff that i cant do...

sounds like a virus to me, id just reformat and all you need is your windows xp disk or what ever OS you got with your computer pop the disk in and restart your computer then it should ask you to hit a key, hit it then follow the instuctions, its really easy xD and yes you have to reinstall EVERYTIHNG.
hope that helped >.<

thanks zaczac...only problem is i don't have the windows xp disc. I downloaded AVG and Spybot S&D, spybot found about 20 spyware entries, 23 entries of trojans and about 60 PUPs (w/e those are..) so after freaking out for about 10 minutes i clicked that fix button and restarted my comp, only to find everything except the cmd gone...

Go into safe mode, and check.

you need a lot more than your windows xp disk. don't confuse the kid. he needs all of his drivers, and then other updates that he might want on his computer, like .net framework. and he'd also have to change his BIOS settings so that his cd/dvd drive is the primary boot device.

EDIT: if don't really have much knowledge with computers, then it's best to go to a computer shop and get a professional to do it for you, but it won't be cheap. Laughing

oh that sucks..those "professionals" charge way too much...might as well just get a new computer, dont use it for much except runescape, but sister has like 20 gigs of pics she doesnt let me delete then blames me for slowness Confused
anybody have any suggestions where to get a reasonably good comp for a reasonably good price? and thanks guys for all the help.

EDIT: Does it matter that most of the problems happen when i open firefox or IE? (except of course the locking out, which happens 90% of the time i start the computer) and that starting in safe mode doesnt stop the problems)

OK, first of all, 20GB of pics don't make your computer slow. I have 800GB of stuff on my 1TB hard drive and my computer still runs at blazing speed. My processor isn't even godly (Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.2 GHz). How much RAM do you have? Page-File is simply a way Windows uses your hard drive as memory because it doesn't have enough Physical Memory. For example, let's say you have 512MB of RAM, but all your processes combined use 700 MB of RAM. Windows still allows you to run those programs, but it will use the pagefile to "extend" your memory. In that case, you would have 188MB of pagefile usage. Check how many processes you have running and check their memory usage in Task Manager. If anyone of them uses over 80MB, try killing it and see if your PF usage decreases.
