|

Hey,
Well about 2 weeks ago i bought a superclocked 8600GTS
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX17017(ME).aspx
well i got the 2 year plan where if the video card burns out or fails, they will give me the newest card in the market..
So how exactly can you burn it out, i know overclocking is one..
and also can you overclock it if its already superclocked?

Intentionally trying to burn a video card? Smart... You do realize that they'll most likely find an excuse to NOT give you a new video card at all, you can totally forget them giving you a better product for free.
Companies always have terms and conditions, so burning that thing intentionally isn't going to help you out at all. Besides, what's wrong with the 8600GTS? Why bother spending money on it if all you're planning on doing is getting a better one? =x

Please read into the EXACT deal... It is probably like... If it burns out in this certain amount of time in this exact way you might be eligable to participate in a contest to win the newest graphics card on the market.

O....k.....
The guy is hired to explain it all very clearly the way the company wants to have it explained. Did he also explain the factors which lead to you not getting a new graphics card?

if the seller offers something to protect it if it goes faulty, that generally means they are certain it will not become faulty wihin that period of time

If you overclock it, it will burn sooner, but it will void your warranty.
You could increase the clock speed so that dies faster ( keep it on a 100 percent all day. )
When that dies, just play HIGH entinsive games, it will get really hot, your fan will be dead and TADA!

There's no way they can tell it was overclocked. The modified clock settings are stored in your OS, not anywhere on the card. The only exception to this is if you overclock it by flashing the BIOS, so just don't do that.
Chances are you won't even have to overclock it though. Unplug the fan from the header on the board, load up the most demanding game you have on the highest settings, and let nature take it's course. If it's not dead in a few hours, point a hairdryer at the heatsink, or throw in some overclocking.

Finally some real help..
@cheetah
how else will i overclock it without flashing the bios? Any other way? ( not so familiar with different types of overclocking)
i dont think i can unplug the fan, as it says if it is modified they will not replace it..
also seems like the fan is unpluggable..
just on it

NeverForgotten: Its hard to tell if you unplugged something and plugged it back in
Or turn your fan down to zero with nTune or nvidia settings manager.
