What is your motherboard?

If you were going to get an Athlon 64 X2, then we would still have to check your motherboard for dual core support.

$200 should be enough for a decent upgrade (8800GT/8800GS + mid-end Athlon 64 X2).

No, it wouldn't work because your current setup uses DDR1, not DDR2.

Here's a build for $275:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180
EVGA 8800GS
MSI P43 Neo3-F
G. Skill 2GB (2x 1GB) DDR2-800

If you have $335, you can upgrade the processor to an Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

but wouldn't i be able to use the stuff if i just got that new motherboard?

also, why do i need to buy more RAM when i already have 2 GB of RAM? Does it not run the GB type i have?

EDIT: Also, do you think i could run crysis? Like on high or medium? Not very high / ultra high, that comp would need 1000$'s of dollars

Which new motherboard? Mines or the other one you suggested?

DDR is old, and most new motherboards don't use it anymore. You have DDR RAM, so both new motherboards won't work without getting new RAM. If you are overclocking, it'll help you reach higher clock speeds.

What is the resolution you are gaming at? At 1024x768, you could probably play it at high settings, 1600x1200, medium settings, and low for the rest. These are just generalizations (using your future setup) off the top of my head, so it could be different.

The motherboard i said, wouldnt i be able to use the stuff that is in those links with the motherboard in those links i posted?

Also, i play CS:S at 800x600 because i am following a setup by a CGS player to just test how they play.

I used to play at 1024x768. my desktop is 1027x768 though.

I haven't personally tested crysis yet, but I am going to get it if i can get the new comp.

The stuff you chose will fit together. Except your RAM won't work. The stuff I chose will work, and there are no problems from what I see, although the power supply might be too small (350W). The CPU I chose won't fit in your motherboard, and vice versa. Everything else should work together (my RAM will fit in your motherboard, and my GPU will fit in your motherboard), but my choice should yield 4-6 times more performance in terms of FPS.

Is 1027x768 a typo?

In Crysis, you should be capable of playing at the highest possible setting without any AA or AF with my choice (both the E2180 and the E7200 should be capable of doing it). With your choice, medium settings, with a few settings high at the most.
