I'll be turning 15 and working and i'll finally be able to build a comp that doesn't royally suck. I'll be willing to spend $1.1k USD, maybe a bit more if people find something that would improve it a lot. I'm not sure if i have everything or if it's all compatible, just started today because i was bored and my friend and i started talking about it.

Monitor - $210 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824163115
Case - $65 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156090
Motherboard - $150- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2824015&Sku=A455-2320
CPU - $210 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017
RAM - $47 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134187
Graphics card - $130 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318
HDD - $47 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144487
Mouse and keyboard - $33 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109034
CD-RW - $32 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106082

To sum it all up a 3.0ghz quad core, 8800GT GeForce, 2gb ram (1gb or 2gb later), CD reader, writer and dvd reader, case with lights and 17" LCD monitor all for $924 including tax and shipping.

What are you using this computer for (Gaming, music, entertainment, etc.; also specify the program/game)?

From there, we will decide if your build is good or not.

GeForce video cards do SLi, not CrossFire. CrossFire is for AMD/ATI cards. If you're gaming, that monitor sucks because of it's slow 8ms response time. You're spending far too much on the motherboard, in this price range, only $100-$175 would be better (when you spend more on your motherboard than CPU, something's wrong). I would prefer an Intel CPU (E8400/Q6600). Both of them outperform your selected CPU by a wide margin. There are much better deals on RAM, such as this (you'll want to get a dual channel kit, or buy 2 seperate DIMMs). The price per gigabyte is comparably high on low size models, a 500GB provides a better price per gigabyte ratio. Also, Western Digital is considered to be a better brand than Maxtor. You'll want to get a DVD burner at the least, it's only $5 more anyways.

Unless you're a really heavy gamer, one 8800gt will work fine. And as superweapons said, 8800gt's SLI not crossfire.

Edit: After reading reviews on that case, it's (all according to the reviews) flimsy, LED's and temp gauge die easily, the power button can build up a charge and shock you (and possibly the mobo). Truthfully, I would say no to this case.

It'll mainly be gaming, some 3d modeling. I had the 3.2ghz since i was aiming for a radeon and heard they worked better but i found a better one and haven't changed it. No specific game in particular but crysis is usually the target. I suppose i'll find the new stuff you guys pointed out and update it. And i know it's named differently but i only knew crossfire and it's the same thing.

Edit: Took me a while but i went through them all. idc about the dvd burner, i don't need 500gb, 160gb will be fine and the ram link you sent me costs more than the 2gb card i have and i said i'm going to add some more and the new on only has 2 RAM slots.

CrossFire and SLi are 2 different terms from two different companies. GeForce cards won't work in CrossFire, and Radeon cards won't work in SLi.

Monitor - $190: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001269
Case - $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
PSU - $30-$15 (combo deal with case): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371004
Motherboard - $190: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188026
CPU - $200 (price dropped $10): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017
RAM - $56: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134066
GPU - $280 (2 of them, only 1 MIR): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130359
Mouse and Keyboard - $23: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109034
DVD Burner - $23: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228

Subtotal: $1037 (MIR accounted for)

CPu link you gave me is a PSU, a cool looking case is a must, not going to spend a grand and have it look like a normal comp. Like i said before, the ram link you gave me costs more and is 2 cards. GPU is a link to the one i have which should suffice anyways. Took the monitor and burner.

The RAM costs more because it's gaming/high-performance RAM with heat spreaders. 2 DIMMs are better because you can dual channel them, a simple way to increase performance.

I would say my GPU is better because it has a dual slot cooler, which should further help keep the video card cool.

I'm just pointing out that your motherboard has an older chipset. It's just "old", and a bit slower than the newer nForce chipsets. It'll work though.

I own the same monitor (SyncMaster 953BW), and it works great from my experiences (no dead or damaged pixels, awesome contrast and brightness, and it even looks good when it's turned off). It has a faster response time and a larger screen (but a higher resolution to go with it).

The motherboard has onboard 7.1 surround sound.

I'm not sure if that CPU cooler would perform very well (no reviews or benchmarks). You might as well stay with the stock Intel cooler.

Most games just do sound in software now, onboard is likely fine for anything now.

gone are the days of Creatives EAX 98 ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE.
