I can get my laptop to connect remotely to my computer when im connected to the network

all i need to do is type dannymet-pc1 in as the PC name to connect and it works fine

BUT when i type the IP in. it doesn't connect. Not even if I'm connected on the same network

i wish to connect to this PC remotely from work on my laptop but it wont let me.

can anyone give me some tips to get it to work? I'm behind a router if thats a problem

edit: ive just realised that my ip is the same on BOTH computers
when i visit whatismyip.com it says they are both 78.150.16X.XX

Try using TeamViewer

If you type in say... Janets-PC and Janets-PC is on your network, it goes to your router, then to the correct corresponding PC...

If you type in the IP address... It goes from your computer, to the router, to the modem, to the great wide internet, back to your modem, router... and slams into a brick wall when it sees the port it is expecting to be opened is closed.

you have to configure your router to forward connections to port 3389 to dannymet-pc1
