I have some virus on my PC.
Theres this program I didnt even install and appeared when I rebooted my PC called AntiVirusXP 2008. It says I have 4000+ virus and tells me to register. My desktop background is messed up and says that I have a virus.

So what I did, I found the icon of the "fake antivirus program" and found the program folder, and deleted everything.

But I still has some missing tabs on my display properties, like desktop, and other ones. heres what I mean --> http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/qbprince23/virus.jpg

Is the virus still on my pc?

What do I do now?

antivirus 08 is lying itself is a virus scan using avast and it will get rid of it

you could try to run smitfraud, since it probably is a malware...

instructions:

run smitfraud.exe
type 1 press enter
wait for the log file
restart your pc and go into safe mode
run smitfraud.exe choose option 2
go back to normal mode
do all the rest.....

You might loose some probably "fake" infected files, and your background will reset to default..----

Lol, these adverts are really stupid. If anyone got 4000+ viruses they wouldn't even be able to download the advertised product..

Anyway, get hijackthis! and post a log.
