there is only one sound driver out there and that is ac97 go download that and you will be fine...
the problem is there is more than one version you have realtek and via then there is realtek hd ac97
download realtek ac97 and realtek hd ac97
if its onboard audio chances are its just realtek ac97.

Lol...? No? Each sound card has it's own set of drivers which more then likely has more then one version based on updates and fixes. The user never stated the brand of sound card he/she has, so just saying 'get realtek's drivers' does not suite their need nor answer their question as that may not even be the brand of soundcard that they have.
@Agu123: Do you know which brand of sound card you have in your system? If not, do you know what brand of computer you have, or if it is custom built?

Download CPUZ. Get mobo model and manufacturer, look on their site for all the drivers (Sound, video, BIOS, etc)
Remove the paypal thing by the way.

read what i stated in my paragraph, there are TWO versions of ac97 via and realtek, oh and c-media is another one but its not really a common one ive came accross.
ac97 are generic sound drivers and work for all onboard sound cards that i have ever came accross and have worked for alot of addon sound cards also.
if you still dont believe me open your dxdiag and check your sound drivers i bet its either via or realtek, my mobo is pretty new and its using realtek hd audio driver.

just give me the ac 97 driver lemme see if that works

That means you don't have a sound card.
