I have overheating issues with my processor.
I have good airflow, and my mainboard stays at constant 24 degrees. My processor idles at about 38-45 degrees, but as soon as I start most games, they run beautifully at 58 Fps, and then bloop. Computer shuts off. I start it up, and my BIOS say that my processor jumped all the way up to 68 degrees (if it gets around 75 it shuts off). This happens to me about 4 times a day, and it starts to discourage me from playing many games (Fucking king arthur's gold surprisingly works perfect with no problems, and so does Dark messiah. So fuck. MOST of Mafia 2 worked up until the part when they're all drunk, and my pc shuts off 5 minutes into that mission.)
I thought my issue was with thermal paste, since I was still using the thermal paste that was already on my heatsink when I got it, and I remember accidentally wiping some off. So I replaced the thermal paste, and I still get the same shit.
I have an FX4170 bulldozer, which up until a month ago was working phenomenally. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? (And don't tell me to get a new processor, AMD sucks blah blah blah.).
I'm thinking that maybe underclocking it, since I don't need all of this power, might fix my problem? Or maybe I didn't apply the paste correctly?
If it's any help, I have a GTX 560 video card that has no problems at all. _________________

| My friend has a 4100 that overheats during MW3 and blops. I'm starting to think its the game because BF3 has no issue and its much heavier. |

I BEAT BF3 with this rig without any problems. It did reach 70 celcius at times, but that's when I had one case fan and the stock thermal grease. And it never shut off, just crashed sometimes (common issue with AMD that I found a fix for eventually). Now for some reason it just up and fucking reaches 70 degrees playing that new scribblenauts game. And fucking faster than light doesn't work at all for more than 2 minutes because of how CPU intensive that game is. But surprisingly, it runs (lags) on my mom's 10 year old rig without shutting off at all, and that computer doesn't even have a fucking heat sink.
So I don't know WHAT to do. I really need help. _________________

Thank you so much for fucking telling me that. o tell you the truth, I only started getting these problems once I reformatted about a few weeks ago with a different windows 7 image. Do you think that could be the culprit?
EDIT:
What do you think about upgrading my Bios? _________________

No, lol...
"Very quietly Microsoft has released two new patches available for the Bulldozer platform."
Fuck you Microsoft -___-
Thanks though Hero. If it doesn't work I'll just post back and see if there's something else I can do. _________________
