Post your comments and thoughts about the card here.

I have to say, the 4870 looks like a very nice card, and it provides a lot of performance at a decent price. It performs well both in single card mode and in CrossFire. But competing cards look like much better deals. Take the 9800GTX+ for example, at $229 (which is $70 less than the 4870), most of the time it equals or surpasses the 4870, dual video cards or not. Even the 8800GT doesn't look like such a bad deal anymore at only $100.

The 4870 is a very good card, and it will certainly help ATI get some money and market share. But for $300, it's at a somewhat ineffective price point. High-end computer enthusiasts want the best cards, most of the time regardless of the price (GTX 280 wins). Budget and mid-end builders want a good price/performance ratio (9800GTX+ and maybe even the 8800GT wins).

Uh, what? What the hell review are you reading? Not the one you linked apparently.

Crysis, 4870 wins. 4850 behind by 1 fps... compare prices.
4870 is ahead of the 9800gtx+ by a mere 20fps in Call of Duty4 in that benchFUCKINGWORDFILTERjoe. The 4850 beat it out as well.
Quake Wars, wow, even in OpenGL ATI managed to win out. 4850 ahead by 10 fps...
The Witcher, 4870 wins, 4850 behind by 1 fps.
Assassins Creed, 4870 wins, 4850 behind by 3 fps.
Bioshock, guess what? Both are ahead again.

Lowest 4870 I found was $280, in most cases it was winning over a GTX 260. Lowest GTX 260 I found was $370. Great.
Lowest 4850 I've seen was about $170. Lowest 9800gtx $190.

Conclusion? For their price points, both of ATI's cards offer superior performance for the cost. The 4850 is pretty much on an overclocked 9800's nuts, let alone the 4870.

All the 9800gtx+ is, is a dieshrunk, overclocked 9800gtx. The ATI's look like they have absolutely ridiculous overclocking ability, have you looked around? People are getting hitting the catalyst control center limits on stock cooling, let alone aftermarket stuff where they are getting 800+ on the core.

It's not even close, ATI has this round WON. Nvidia priced their shit like idiots and ATI took advantage of it.

HardOCP shows them demolishing Nvidia as well.

Wait wut? The 4850 is on par or better with the 9800GTX+ in every test, and the 4870 absolutely dominates it in every test by a fairly decent margin.

Yeah... somehow the review changed, it had Crysis, CoD4, Quake Wars all on one page.

I was comparing MSRP, not the lowest possible price.
