| O_o You make no sense. Break into a website? A site usually consist of html or php pages, you can get the source of how it's written if you go View -> Page Source. If you want information from their databases maybe there are ways, but I don't know of them.

Is there some way to alter the scripts so that the page would be messed up. I don't mean anything like GreaseMonkey for Mozilla-I mean altering it so that everybody would see the page like that

Yes, there is always a way.

Brute Forcers are a last resort of hacking. Also they are VERY easy to get caught with. You can use a Proxy to hide your IP but they will always find you. What do you think the site administrator is going to do when he see's over a hundred thousand log in attempts form the same location/ connection... Like I said Brute Forcing is the last resort. >_>

To do that you would once again need access to the root admin's account.
Then go into the webhosts web editor and render it. Unless it is does VIA FTP, then you will need a FTP program (Smart FTP works great) and the site log in and pass. Then just replace the old files with your own.

No... defacing a website is against the law... because THAT will make the administrator to realise someone got in and check the recent connection attempts. Then the court order comes in. >_>
But you can go in through a proxy or if you have a dynamic IP and not touch anything and be safe.
So if your going to deface a website... do it somewhere that ISN'T your computer or connection or house. Do it somewhere, where they can't ever know you were there.

Actually, a dynamic IP doesn't help. They can still tell what provider you'v got, and your provider will tell who had that IP at a specific time. Ofcource, if you don't touch anything you'r safe, but you don't need a proxy in that case (altough it alwayshelps ofcource).

since someone replied... You can't view the source of a php file... You can only view the compiled html output. The actual contents of a PHP file can not be viewed withouth downloading the file trough ftp. Downloading it with the http protocol will compile the file into an html file and will be useless if you wan't to find weak points in the script.
