Problem with headphone jack in laptop

My laptop speakers don't work, but my headphones do work in my laptop. However, when I put the headphone cord halfway through the laptop the laptop speakers work unless I move the cord. So the problem is something is wrong with my headphone jack. Should I use a pin and move it up and down after putting in the jack or is there any solution that doesn't involve replacing it?
