|

Hello,
Some weeks ago I got a PSP for free from a friend.
It's the old version (So a friend told me), now I found stuff for it on the internet like IRC.
Link: http://pspupdates.qj.net/New-IRC-Client-PSPirc-Released-/pg/49/aid/52078
As you can see, it requires LuaPlayer, so I downloaded it and "installed" it on my PSP. But when I tried to run it, it said "File corrupted" or so.
Then I thought I gotta update my PSP and clicked on "Update .. .." but then it said that I'm already on version 3.71 and it's the latest.
So I googled for LuaPlayer 3.71 and found something.
Link: http://dl.qj.net/LuaPlayer-for-Team-M33-s-3.71-CFW-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/14654/catid/151
As you can see it says "LuaPlayer for Team M33's 3.71 CFW".
What is that? I'm on 3.71 but what is M33 and CFW?
I tried it and now when I try to run it it says "Could not start the game (80020148)"
What am I doing wrong?

You need to mod your PSP for custom firmware beforehand.
This will involve altering your battery physically, unless you buy a pre-modded one. Also known as a Pandora's battery.
pspmod is a great forum for this subject, you should take it there and follow the guides. Be careful though.

Thank you renko :3 | I'll help you if you need it. I've modded like 10 batteries in my time. Soldering is fun, haha.

lol. Didn't know you gotta solder, shouldn't be a problem since I'm doing that at work every day.
I already failed getting out the battery, haha.
I'll be on IRC tomorrow

Only a pussy would tell you it's "dangerous". Grab a safety pin and have at Pin 5 on the battery. It's a 2 minute job if you can open the battery easilly, 2 hour project if you have to take an axe to the battery to get it open like I did.
All-in-all, it's fairly simple and after putting the files on your memory stick (google pandora GUI) a simple reboot and follow the onscreen instructions and you'll be on your way to a modded PSP. Afterwards, it will be able to run .ISO files and whatnot, and most of the homebrew/illegal software you would ever want.
BTW: No offense Renko, but soldering is unneeded. If you wish to restore your battery to it's previous stage, simply download time machine off Dark Alex's homepage (google that as well). It will restore the battery to normal function without having to resolder the pin.

I'm wondering why the PSP has a function to run games from the Memory card. Alll things I tried yet didn't work. (like IRC, YouTube watcher).
What is that function for since you aren't allowed to run games from it?
Also:
Please post a link to YOUR favorite tutorial.
And what will happen if do something wrong and fail?

There ARE certain legal things that can be started from the mem card such as flash games and some other things
Installing a CFW (Custom FirmWare) is not dangerous if you make a pandora battary. this is a special battery which can unbrick or protect your psp against a brick.
I've used a tut for a universal pandora battery, also called a jig-kick (wtf >.>) battery
To make this battery you'll have to sacrifice a fat psp (First model, not slim and lite/light/gay version) battery.
Ive now downgraded 7 psp's without any brick
See attachment for further explanation.
To make a jig-kick battery youll need an other hacked psp else it will NOT work
Or you need a psp with firmware 1.5 or 1.5 kernel but i think that's to difficult to explain
