i was planning to buy a external hard drive. i was deciding between a Seagate or western digital. the Seagate came with a 5 year warranty which was good because i heard externals die a lot. which do you guys prefer and where are some good sites for deals?

You should check out some popular sites that sell external hard drive. In my opinoin, I think SeaGate's better. It's alot faster.

Western Digital is far superior to Seagate in terms of reliability. I've owned about 5 Seagate drives now and every one of them has died or started giving errors before I'd had them for a year. As far as Western Digital, I've owned about 25 of them over the years and every single one of them is still functional, including the first hard drive I ever had, the 80MB WD.

I use Seagate just because I've saw them first. But western digital has better reviews. I like my seagates though, of course I'm not a hard core computer person, so I don't push my HDs that much

From experience I can tell you that Western Digital beats Seagate by heaps. I've owned roughly 2 or 3 Seagates, decided to use a WD as my fourth and it was the best decision I've made in a while.

Don't listen to the guy who said that Western Digital is slower, all depends on the RPM the hard drive makes. Rolling Eyes A nice 250 gig 7200RPM Western Digital is flabbergasting. =P
