XP: Remove Unread Email Notification from Startup.
posted by Cryoma
If you have XP + Outlook, AOL, Windows Messenger, or other applications that manage your email and IM, then you will find a annoying message that reads "_ Unread Messages" when you start up.
Even worse, if you click on it, your email address is betrayed.
Not good for shared computers (Or if you use a secret email address or something cause your parents are paranoid freaks).
So let's fix that, open regedit and browse here.
| Code: | | HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Unread |
Note that "Unread" might be "UnreadMail".
Under Unread will be a list of all the email addresses you ever logged into on your computer, you can delete them to remove traces but it will just put them back when you log into them again.
SO, select the DWORD called MessageExpiryDays and change it's value to 0.
If it's not there then right click on the right panel, New>DWORD
Name it MessageExpiryDays and set the value to 0.
Restart.
Triumph.
Start Button Customization.

This is for changing the text (Start) or icon (4-Colored-Flag) on your start button, without changing the windows theme.
Go to HKey_Local_Machine>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT> CurrentVersion>Winlogin
Scroll down and find Shell and double-click
