Well thats no good. We don't know what chipset it is.
Its most likely realtek if its onboard, possible AC'97 and not HD.
In which case you could go to realteks site 'Here' and download the XP drivers.
You might want to run a program such as everest by lavalys or sisoft sandra to find out some info about your system. Then post back
Saying you need audio drivers for XP doesn't help...
