|
|
I have a separate modem that is used for my computer than the one for my xbox. The one hooked up to my xbox360 is a SURFboard modem by Motorola and it fails the MTU test while connecting to xbox live. How do I fix it? I heard i have to change the MTU settings, but i have no clue how.

I looked on google and tried one of the guides, if it can be classified as that, with my modem on my pc and it had no effect at all.

If you go on your Xbox, you can find one of these three things being the problem:
• Has an MTU setting that is incompatible with Xbox Live.
• Handles ICMP port-unreachable packets incorrectly.
• Is a highly aggressive NAT-type router.
Which one is it?

It has a blank screen when i choose the tab to see the problem.
I've re-done the test like 10 times and looked at the after screen and its just blank.

Oh well could you tell me how to change the setting of the MTU? I think that that is generally the problem when it comes to modems.

Try setting the router for the xbox to DMZ.

Yeah you'll have to login to the router from a web browser on a PC.
Depending on the make/model it could be something like:
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
Try them. Enter the appropriate credentials and you will be able to alter the MTU in (most likely) a WAN setup dialog.
1500 would be the ethernet default. When wireless comes into the equation it drops to about 1492 incl. overheads.
I would very much doubt that MTU is giving you that problem though, even though that is what it is stating. The problem sounds more fundamental.
I have no experience with hooking up xbox's to a network setup, as i've never owned an xbox or any sort, but for your router and MTU, ^ thats it.
