|
|
| I'd like help building a good computer on my low budget of $500. I need everything except the monitor and the OS, I'm not looking for anything wonderful but I need one as good as I can get it for gaming. Since I don't know nearly as much about the computer itself as I do about what's in it I was hoping I could get some help here, until I can get a new job and buy some Alienware this'll be my main computer. I need the names of the components and where to order them. I live in the U.S.A. and it's alright if ya go a little over the budget. Anyone wanna help? |

I was going to help you.. but then.. I realized what 500 USD is in EUR.
500 U.S. dollars = 316.59 Euros (currently 1 EUR = 1.5793 USD)
I don't think u can build a PC for gaming.
with that little money..
500€ I think would make a decent gaming PC..
but that would be 789.65 USD _________________

$500? Looks like a challenge. I'll see if I can build a computer for that - but don't expect it to be good. _________________

Do not opt to get an alienware, they are bloated pieces of shit.
wait till you have around $800 to spend, then buy the parts.
Also guys; it wouldn't be a challenge really... just don't get the high-end parts. I built my computer for $400. _________________

4gb is overkill unless you have a specific agenda.
And yeah alienware, I couldn't agree more, although the laptops are nice.
But then again you don't exactly go and part-shop to build yourself a laptop now do you lol |

Format is like:
Part: model - $price with shipping
link
subtotal:
comments
Motherboard: Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H $67.58
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128078
subtotal: $67.58
Yeah, it's cheap, but it works. Please note, I changed the Mobo at the last second, so all the lower subtotals are about $1 off.
Case: Rosewill R6A34-BK $49.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147041
subtotal: $117.57
Good case. Highly rated.
Memory: WINTEC AMPO (2 x 1GB) 667MHz $38.98
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161677
subtotal: $156.55
Cheap as hell, great ratings.
CPU: Intel E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz $119.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115031
subtotal: $276.54
It's kind of slow, but you could probably overclock it to like 2.8GHz.
HDD: WD Caviar 160GB $55.29
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075
subtotal: $331.83
Isn't the best, but who the hell needs more than 160 gigs, anyway?
GPU: EVGA 8600GTS 256MB $136.99 - $96.99 after mail-in rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084
subtotal: $428.82
It'll run most things at low settings. Will be as best you can afford till you have $800-1200 for a higher end computer.
Disk drive: Generic Samsung DVD burner $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151161
subtotal: $458.81
Kinda sucks, but whatever.
PSU: APEVIA 500W PSU $39.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148027
500W is plenty.
Grand total: $498.80
It's $538.80 without the mail-in rebate, but, hey, what the hell. What'll an extra $40 hurt?
If anyone wants to suggest any changes, go ahead. It's as good as I can do for $500. _________________

I need to ask you a few questions (in order to pull the most performance out of your parts):
What resolution (monitor size) do you play at?
What operating system do you currently have?
What kind of games do you wish to play?
Do you have to do video editing/playing high definition content?
Are you going to have a lot of files (answer in number of games, applications, music, etc)? _________________

I'd say go with a 8500GT or 8600GT as the video card. _________________
