Wondering if the above is a good buy
It has 2Gb memory, 250 Hardrive, includes 19 inch LCD monitor
Dual core
$499
Also, my dad doesnt really believe dual cores are much faster, any good explanation to tell him how they are faster than the 1 cores?

Not sure with a monitor, but Ill try and find a link with a good comp set soon.
And right and I forgot that comes with a 19 inch LCD... that actually is a better deal than I thought.

Tell your dad this:
Dual Cores are faster than single cores because programs combine the two cores together to run. So the dual core that you are looking at really runs twice as fast as it says it does. And also add that if he is running multiple programs, the computer gives partial CPU space to each program, allowing the programs to run just as fast as they were when they were running by themselves.
I think that would be the easiest (though not entirely correct) way of explaining that to him. Though someone else come on here and see if you can condense that
And that looks like a really good deal. (Though I have a personal vendetta against Acer.)

Not only are dual cores [way] more powerful than single cores (even the top-of-the-line P4 can be beat by a cheap $120 Core 2 Duo), they are much more efficient. They use more advanced materials (like High-K metal in Core 2 CPUs), and re-engineered designs (Core 2 architecture at 2.0GHz single core > Prescott 2.0GHz, and maybe up to 2.4GHz). Above that is energy efficiency, high-end P4s took >150, even quad cores have a hard time eating up all that energy.
As for the buy, what are you going to be using it for? Gaming on that will be horrible (considering the entire price of the build vs. parts on), it will probably have integrated graphics, which have just enough power to run Vista (don't expect too much performance out of them).

ok now my dad is convinced, he'll get dual core, he thought hearing it from me would be like a lie, and just to get him to buy it..
