Lets face it Vista sucks in every way... I don't really like certain aspects of the themes anyway.
Keep custom themes off XP, especially any vista transformation packs you might be tempted to get... more hassle than its worth.

Quite a while... the resource usuge is crap... its supposed to do all this optimzation..but it makes things slower.... hardware/software incompatibilites....user account security permission issues (by default anyway).
Doesn't like sht been poked into memory, runs fifty-million hidden services and processes... and for most people that equates to a deathly slow machine.
Visually it looks ok... but thats it...its visual...everything else can be done under XP at 10 times the speed, and if you must get themes etc you can make it look the same. Done.

Well... That applies when you're using a slow machine and a fake Vista them with XP can easily be identified. AFAIK, everything else cannot be done 10 times faster in XP, I believe only certain programmes can be 5%~15% faster when their in XP like SuperPi
BTW, do you know the difference between DX9 and DX10?

Yes I know the differences between DirectX10, and i've yet to see a game that 'wow's me with DX10 effects. Crysis for instance can be made to run with DX10 effects (not 100%, but as for as your eye is concerned) on XP.
And even now there are versions of DX10 about that you put onto XP with a little work and know-who.

I see... Anyway, its still hard to make some DX10 in XP.

It is 'hard' and its hardly complete in any way... but its a start.
That is my opinion of vista anyway... at least while i'm seriously coding and hacking etc, I need to be able to run everything I currently do, and some of the stuff I know for a fact won't run under vista for various reasons.
Its needs to be rock steady, and after about 6 months time, I'll reconsider, but until then, it must be rock-steady xp. Hehe, even though Xp is giving me grief at the mo, but that is most likely my own doing

Do what I do, use Mac for general things and Boot Camp XP/Vista for games.
The cost is the hardest part of that.

DX9 took us pretty far as effects go, however DX10 can do many much easier and simpler.
However, many effects can be much more efficiently done under DX10. When straight up DX10 features start getting taken advantage of, performance gains will be seen.
