| i added a secondry HardDisk (IDE 0:1) and when i run the VM, it doesn't seem to recognize it, any clue what to do ?

Is the drive formatted properly...in other words is it visible to the host operating system? XP?
If so, then its some setting in the virtual machine.
Vmware will obviously rely heavily on the host for a lot of communication, so the connection needs to be good.

This is what i did:
and when i start the VM it doesn't detect the VHD.

It won't. This is because the space that the VM runs from is an area of your C: drive allocated for use.
This is what the Virtual XP Pro runs from. And this is why you only see the one HDD when you load that OS.
I suggest you maybe go to VMWare's forum or website and request support. I haven't done such a setup myself, but no doubt many people are using it in a similar way.
