If you mean a desktop file as in a shortcut to the program just do...

1. Open Folder of thing you want as a shortcut.
2. Select it and press ctrl+c (to copy it).
3. Go to your desktop and press ctrl+v (to paste it).

YOU HAVE YOUR SHORTCUT!
