It's all relative to what you wish to do with Vista, and how much your computer can handle.
#1 Hardware
If you do not posess a dual core processor, I would recommend not using Vista. Vista seems to have issues with single core processors, as they are a bit out of date. I have heard of a lot of blue screen issues involving single core processors. Also, I wouldn't recommend using Vista if your system doesn't have at least 2GB of RAM available.
#2 Software
Most signed software works perfectly fine with Vista. It's the unsigned software that requires kernel access you need to worry about. If you require access to the kernel through software not signed by Microsoft, I suggest you do not use Vista. Other then that, you're fine.
These are the most vital issues you need to take in account. If you meet the requirement, then by all means feel free to use Vista.
Ciao,
Ani

I'm guessing intel Centrino DUO means double core?
I don't recommend Vista to anyone unless they like looks over productivity.
Heck, I'm even switching to Linux Ubuntu if Windows Vienna is another more memery hogging Vista.

how much ram do you have? i suggest at least 1.5gb of ram to run vista.
i'm using vista now on my laptop (got an update disc for free) and all's running fine. you might need to tweak a few things but after that everything runs smoothly.
