What is Low Latency RAM? Does it make a difference?

according to some sites, it's not worth it. they say you only get only a small amount of extra performance. but i actually don't know anything about latency. xD

May help you understand. To answer the second question, no. You won't notice any difference, the difference can only be seen in numbers. You usually don't worry about RAM latency, unless you want to do something related to overclocking.

Usually when i buy ram, i go with the lowest latency for the Speed that i am buying.
For example, there's CAS 4 ram that runs at 800 MHZ,
And there's Cas 5 ram that runs the same speed
Pick the one with the lowest CAS for the MHZ range you're looking at.
If you're goign for ddr3, expect the CAS to be much higher, thought the extra MHZ make up for it.

DDR3 is utterly unneeded right now...

Uhh, no?
DDR2 is getting cheaper than DDR(1)
I might get one of the x48's comming out with both ddr2 and ddr3 slots

He's just spamming.
I doubt he can even tell us what they are without looking it up on google.

I let you compare this:
Stock speed: 1066MHz(DRAM Frequency) @ 5-5-5-15(RAM Timings) is faster than
Stock speed: 800MHz @ 4-4-4-12 but
Overclocked/Underclocked speed: 800MHz @ 3-3-3-9/10 is faster than
Stock speed: 1066MHz @ 5-5-5-15

Wrong. The extra bandwidth over DDR is overkill for most applications, however DDR2 costs half the price, and uses less power so it's a good idea all around. DDR3 on the other hand costs 3-5x more and brings no real benefit at the moment.

And with very high latency timings too.

Er... No. It's rather like how many cycles it takes for the RAM to transfer/interpret/produce the data. The lower the better, however high speed RAMs like DDR3 has got latencies like 8-8-8-27 which is really ficking high.
