| I have been browsing on the forums for a while. My question is why do some people find that vb is so horrible? They just say it a waste of time to learn it and stuff. |

VB is hated here because of user opinion. Yes it isn't as powerful at certain things as other languages, but most base their opinion on the wrong reasons. VB wasn't designed for what it's being used for today. (At least VB6.)
Most hate it here because they know another language that has less limitations then VB. So the easy way out for them to reply to a topic about it is to insult the user / language, rather then avoid the topic all together.
For your own reading pleasure:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VB6
| Quote: | | Visual Basic (VB) is a third-generation event driven programming language and associated development environment from Microsoft for its COM programming model.[1] Visual Basic was derived from BASIC and enables the rapid application development (RAD) of graphical user interface (GUI) applications, access to databases using DAO, RDO, or ADO, and creation of ActiveX controls and objects. Scripting languages such as VBA and VBScript are syntactically similar to Visual Basic, but perform differently.[2] |
Again, VB's intended purpose was RAD development of applications for database access. The use that VB has obtained today is far from what was expected. But, you can expect that when the language is opened to access of the API of the system at hand. You can do a lot in VB that most think you can't. But yea, it does have it's limits.
Although I have nothing against VB6 as I used to program in it myself, I do suggest you don't bother with it anymore. Microsoft dropped support for it years ago when VB.NET came out. I also suggest you avoid VB.NET all together mainly due to if you learned VB6 already, you will have to relearn the language all over.
.NET changed the way VB is structured which turned it more into a C# style scripting language. Not to mention the .NET framework is a waste of resources and such and is more of a hassle then it's worth.
In my opinion, I suggest you move into C/C++ if you are looking into learning.
