I just need to upgrade from my core(2)duo to extreme or quad and my pc is perfect.

Wait, don't you have 8600? Define perfect. Anyway, you probably don't even know why Extreme processors costs that much.

8600 is good enough to run modern games, i don't work so i don't have enough money to buy 8800GTX, but 8600 is enough for me (for now)

Whats the relation between processor speed and FPS? Does it play a big part?

For the most part no. As long as you have a decent CPU, in most games the video card will be what mainly affects your framerate.
