i will use it soon but firstly what do i need to do to get into the internet and the network with it
| Code: | description of network:
Provider: Arcor
Connection: DSL (perma connection)
the first thing is a "starter box" i got from arcor
->its directly connected with the phones and a router "speedport w500v"(t-com)
->speedport is directly connected with a router from arcor
->3 computers are connected
|
| Code: | How it currently works:
->Speedport & starter box are online
->arcor router is fully ignored by computers (like a usually splitter)
->all internet options i only need to do on speedport (like openning ports) |
i hope anyone can help me.. maybe anyone is using opensuse...

I am pretty sure that you just plug it in. I did not understand those "code" boxes though...

| I used suse a few years back, it auto-configures your networking like most modern OSes so you should be fine.

Get Ubuntu, it's more user friendly.
But if you insist on using Suse, go and make the best of it, I guess...

SUSE isn't a bad starter OS, and it's also KDE based so it's a completely different ballpark compared to Ubuntu. SUSE was the first *nix OS I used and I had no issues figuring it out.

just go to ubuntu
gutsy has wireless network detection i guess
infact im pretty sure.
it also has bluetooth device detection.
so try ubuntu :S and y dont u install suse/ubuntu in same harddisc as windows :S
it'll save u some trubles.
u can also plug both harddiscs and make /home in one or in a partition
so ur ubuntu/suse use ur harddisc/partition as /home
and u can reinstall it and set same partition/hdd as home n u wont lose any important data.
