Long story short, when I first got my computer it had a 512 stick of RAM in it, short time after, my HD got corrupted and the 512 stick stopped working. I got a 256 from a friend so I could at least get it running, but, the bank that my first 512 was in does not seem to work now. When I put a stick in it, it'll recognize less than 50MB of it, and sometimes it will cause my 2nd bank to not accept it's stick. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes, try cleaning the slots with canned air. If that doesn't work, nothing you can do really. Just toss it, RAM is cheap.

I'll get some canned air from work tomorrow and try. Thanks for the replies. Would be lovely if you would like..take it off the motherboard and put a new one on, possible? If so, how?

I fix computers as a living, if I knew how to possibly remove the old one and attach a new one, I could do it.

Yeah, really pisses me off cause I only have 2 slots and I use DDR RAM, not as cheap as I wish.

I'd imagine you could just get it off there somehow and strip one from a diff. board to put on there, but Google didn't return much of anything good.

I've had the same problem try taking both ram sticks out or all if can and clean out the slots then push each in HARD SO YOU HERE A CLICK from the safety clips. This will mean your sticks are in. If this is not working make sure that you have the right kind of ram sticks from what your saying I'm guessing you got DD2 or DD3

No, I have DDR, and they always click. I'll clean the slots today after work with some canned air.
