Someone else made a post about this in another section. All SP3 is, is a pack of hotfixes so far with some small updates to a few things like the security center console. (This is according to the leaked websites that have gotten a copy already.)

Doesn't look too amazing for a service pack, and I'm surprised it obtained the title 'service pack' in the first place. Maybe MS will toss some goodies into it just before release.

Wasn't SP2 the biggest service pack they'd released ever?

So far I'd say yes. SP2 had a lot to offer. For XP that is.

SP1a release notes:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324722

SP2 release notes:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/features.mspx

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/technologiesoverview.mspx

SP2 was a big help to a good amount of people when it was released as well as it helped dialup users, which at the time dialup was still pretty popular, as it made downloading updates more efficient. Along with that it introduced all the new features such as the security center. Then some major updates to the already present features such as the non-working firewall lol.

SP2 I would say was a great release, I personally don't run any machine without it anymore, it's just, in my opinion, worth having.

I'm still laughing at everyone that said as soon as Vista is released XP will be dropped from support. It wont happen. Vista is horrible and has way to many flaws and disappointments already. So many people have rolled back to XP because of Vista running poorly on their machines, or something of the sort.

My personal opinion on the best OS so far from Microsoft would still have to be Windows 2000 Professional though. Putting aside the lack of support from Microsoft to the OS, and the poor quality of the service packs that are released to date, the OS was probably their best so far. Very stable, very fast, very reliable. I have never had an issue with Win2k myself.

Just personal opinions though.

The firewall works, it's just basic, and only provides inbound protection.

Yeah, I'm running WinXP SP2 myself.

I mean before SP2. The firewall did little to nothing before the updates.
