I am buying a new computer for the Holidays as a gift to my whole family (whole family meaning just me). I am buying a custom built computer, which comes with Vista Home Premium.
How do I turn off unwanted Vista Processes and which processes do I turn off?

I don't know, just download XP, burn onto disk and format your PC.

You mean services ? not processes -.-"
services are needed compenents to make an OS run the way it needs running in the background (some are not needed and take a specific amount of memory)
just go to start, msconfig (just like XP)

thats up to you. there should be descriptions for each one.
tweaked is probably going to be fine in most cases.

how can you not run 1.6 smooth? it's minimum requirements are around the level of a sewing machine.
if you're really having that much trouble with it, post specs.
