Well, since i cant get anything for my car for christmas, i'd like to upgrade my computer so i can play games and shit more efficiently. Everything on my computer is stock, and i want to make it better (I cant buy a new one). Here are my current specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
System Model: Dimension 4550
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.53GHz
Memory: 256MB RAM
Page File: 344MB used, 273MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

Card name: 32MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RAGE128 PRO II, (AGP 4X/PCI)
DAC type: Internal DAC (350Mhz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5446&SUBSYS_04091002&REV_00
Display Memory: 32.0 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (75Hz)
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Monitor Max Res: 1600,1200

KEEP IN MIND that i am a semi computer noob, try to dumb it down a bit for me Razz

Things I'd like to upgrade:
-Get a bigger FLAT SCREEN monitor
-Get a new graphics card, enough to run WoW and Bioshock cleanly
-Upgrade RAM, enough to play any games in The Orange Box without a problem, and WoW
-Higher FPS
-Add more space to my hard drive.
-Upgrade computer stereo (Currently Logitech X-230)
-Buy a new D:// Drive (Current one is FUCKED.)

That's pretty much it, i dont have a budget, but try to keep the prices low and reasonable Razz
Try to supply exact product names and prices!

Thanks for your help.

Im not sure you'll be able to play bioshock only upgrading ur vid card and ram.. you most likely need to replace ur processor also.. and if ur mobo does not support a nice video card to play bio you will need to replace that too..

also youll need to install vista to play bio.

No, it allows Windows XP and Vista right out of the box.

Daaamon , it is a low range machine not even mid range.

I would look at prices on building a new machine versus buying one built already.
I have seen some pretty good gaming machines for 600.00 +

Agreed, that machine is too old for anything to be reused really.

The 8600gt is a very poor performer, and he can't play any modern game on an old P4, so a new board and CPU is a necessity.

Okay but if he's going to buy a brand new M/B and processor and yb3r graphics card then it's almost same as buying new PC, but he mentioned that he really don't have money for that, he wanted upgrade, not new pc..
As far as i know they aint releasing new processors for i478 socket.

In his case, upgrading is getting a new rig.

What the hell is this yb3r graphics card you keep mentioning?

Also, there is no new CPU for 478, it was phased out long ago, that's why he needs a new board too. Also, if he replaces all that, you're right, he should go for a whole new computer, which is why I suggested it. Keeping the old P4 is not an option.
