I currently have 512 MB of RAM, and I'm planning to buy a PNY - XLR8 2-Pack 1GB PC2-8500 DDR2 DIMM Desktop Memory for my computer, how would it affect the performance? I'd like to know some facts about adding RAM or whatnot before I spend 500 dollars on it.

Well, I don't know, I might buy the other set for 200 dollars. But since my parents forced me to move to Windows Vista Ultimate, my computer's been running slower than a Windows 2000...well, that's what I think.

Lol wow where are you buying RAM from? You're getting ripped off for prices like that unless you are buying like 20gigs of it.

Kingston is in my opinion the best company to go with:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?MfrId=1130&CatId=10
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+50001183&name=Kingston+Technology

As you can see you can get like... 2gigs of ram for under 100 bucks. Where ever you are looking at is simply ripping you off.

I'm not really sure, but I guess it was a good idea to ask before I actually bought it.

Nice, but hey, this computer is around 5 years old, and parents won't let me buy a new one unless it's completely obsolete. Gotta make do with what I have =[

I highly suggest you order online. Circuit City is bullshit. They have such jacked prices and such for stuff you can find online for double-triple digit amounts cheaper. I seriously suggest you order online to get computer parts and such.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll just borrow my dad's credit card and give him the money for the item.

what type of ram is it? ddr or ddr2.... maybe ddr3, but would doubt it since you said your comp is 5+ y/o

its probably ddr2, and i'd get it offline...

oh and by the way, dont mix ram (512+1gb wont work nice) maybe just go for another 500mb stick, might even run better.
