How do I cheat?

SO I keep getting that message when I go to open up cheat engine to use it aaaannnddd when I'm using it, I can do limited things .. It tells me there's 'access violation' and it's so frustrating. I tried to fix it through some instructions here on the forums buuuut I .. can't find my .config folders to do so. I'm literally just so confused at this point. Sad
