if you uses ie explorer its best to turn off activeX so websites cant install stuff on your pc, also a good idea to surf the net in a limited user account, so a passworded permission is needed for an install,
just manually install windows updates by reactivating activeX and using the RUNAS option to run IE explorer as the admin
or do the same as above but use firefox with the Noscript plugin,
but a nice cleanup with what you posted is a good start if you already collected crap on your pc

yeah thats a good one
I use spybot search and destroy along with AD-AWARE the free version
you can use them on the same comp, just run them at seperate times
the tea timer in spybot S&D watches for registery changes which is handy,
it might be worth stopping while ad-aware is running in case of conflicts but I dont use teatimer much so dont know if there would be conflicts,
to be honest I took it for granted the whole world used these by now lol

Well, your wrong about it catching all Trojans or virus's. Nothing will catch all of them.
The only reason these programs work is because of known Trojans, virus's, adware or mail ware. If one is written that doesn't trigger or copy a certain action that known infections use, then it will not find it at all.
This just proves by the numbers of infections you see getting reported that there are allot of leeching coders using others methods/sources to make their infectious applications.

thats where a limited user account comes in handy
especially if you use NT and make your folders private
access denied to the system folder and program folders, and any others you want makes malware harder to sneak onto your drive
did a post on this and services to turn off a year of 2 ago,,
you cant really just on antispyware//antivirus,firewalls for security
but at least its an effort
