Cheat Engine

I'm just messing around with Cheat Engine. I'm attempting to hack a game called "Build-A-Lot". Basically it's a real estate game, where you have building materials, and money, and need to reach certain goals. Anyways, I'm trying to change the money, and materials, though I can't seem to get it down to one address.

I've tried using materials, and checking for changed values, checking for exact values and the such. I always get 2 addresses for the materials, and 4 addresses for the money. No matter what I do, I get the same results. I am still very new, and have done the CE tutorial, as well as read through some stuff on here, but I'm wondering if this is just beyond me right now.

I'm assuming that I might just need to try changing those values one by one and see if it helps. I'm just curious because I'm wondering if this is a common thing, or if I'm doing something wrong.

I've actually figured out the money one just now. All I did was mess with the 4 different values and found out which one was right.

So now I guess my only questions are:

Is is common to have a few different addresses for one item?

If so, is it done to confuse people who might attempt changing the values?

Thats common and you have found some address's you can use maybe, try to change the value of one of the money ones and see if it gives you da cash in Game .

Yea, I was actually able to change the money, materials, and amount of workers in the past 5 minutes.

So far this game seems to be pretty easy. I imagine changing something like the time it takes to construct a building would be a bit more difficult.


So different addresses for the same item is a common thing?

I should have figured that it wouldn't be too simple.

Actually that brings me a question:

The "construction" bar doesn't have a number, nor percent it's only a bar. So obviously I don't know a value.

So I assume I would start to construct a building and run a scan for "unknown initial value". Though that doesn't seem to come up with anything. I'm sure it's possible to hack this part of the game, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

You also collect rent, which is a constant bar filling up. I'm wondering how to find the value of something that is constantly changing. I assume once I figure this out, I should be able to solve this problem.

I actually figured it out.

Basically, I just searched for "Unknown Initial Value", then did a search for "Value Increased". I was getting between 100-200 results. I then waited for the bar to restart, and did a search for "Value Decreased" which came back with about 5 results, I then just trial and errored it.

I have to say, so far this is pretty fun, though I am only doing basic stuff.

its also worth setting a hotkey for pause to freeze the game,

then you can make a energy or in this case contruction bar freeze when you make a change of value, then you can scan the frozen game,

so if your bar decreases a liittle for example you can do a decrease search without worrying about the bar increasing while you search,,

this also speeds up the searches a lot as your proccessor is under less work strain,

you can also just click the pause while scanning button when you want to speed up searches and stop any chance of changes happening while the scan is in progress,

a pause hotkey is nice to have anyway as it gives you more time and control over the game while your trying to find cheats.....

the hotkey configuration can be found in settings under the cheat engine logo in the main cheat engine window
