So I asked my friends if they've ever seen it done either and they said no.
So yeah, must not be very common at all in southern US.
nothing that has to do with manners or etiquette is common in the south.
and ive never seen it done directly, i just know it exists.
It's not even a matter of manners or anything, the spoon thing just sounds completely pointless altogether. I never drop noodles or slurp or anything and I only use a fork or chopsticks. I also have no trouble getting the noodles on my fork. There's literally just no reason to use a spoon with a fork...
Aside from with Pho.
>no reason to use spoon with a fork
Maybe so that you have something to push your fork against while you twist the fork on the noodles? If you do it with the entire bowl you get huge amounts.
You don't even need to twist the fork, that's what kids do because they can't pick up noodles normally...
When you use chopsticks do you twist your chopsticks too?
It's not because you can't pick them up, it's because if you pick them up without doing that, you end up with dangling noodles and that's messy as fuck. However manners don't really come into play with chopsticks.
What are you going to do with the spoon? Sip the broth? Fucking pansy. Just gulp the broth when you're done with the noodles. Especially in the case of OP's picture, there's obviously a very little amount of broth, if any.
Fucking uncultured Americans.
You have no fucking sense of anything related to dining. I bet you fucking eat steaks with your hands and chew off bits instead of using a knife and fork.
Fuck that, I dont even cook the steak.
Also, Konr for the dangly noodles I recently found scissors are pretty handy. _________________

Yes. Learning how to use fork abd knife is too hard so they moved to sticks

i can use them functionally, and its more fun, but learning to do shit 'properly' with them like shit which direction they face when doing what etc would be annoying and would be more embarrassing doing wrong than just using a fork

Who gives 2 fucks how people eat their damn spaghetti I eat mine with bare hands it's called pizza or only using a fork pasta/ravoli or a damn spoon when its noodle soup yes I'm American and yes fuck you.

... you are supposed to hold the noodles with the spoon while you twist the fork to grab them.

Sounds like something an autistic would do.
Well Europeans do it.
I do it too; they just explained it badly. While you twirl noodles with the fork you use the spoon as a base for the fork prongs to rest on so the noodles don't fall off the fork. _________________
