except you're not arguing. an argument would have substance to it, propositions. you've just plainly chosen to ignore a lot of information, and attack me. you are the one being stubborn, and that is obvious.

People say the sky/above it is the heavens because they were tricked into thinking that the heavens were above the sky and that God resided there. I didn't cherrypick anything. I went to Google and typed in "define:" before the words mentioned. You looking on specific websites that cater to your definition without actually noting that certain ones are LITERARY and not the religious meaning is the only cherrypicking going on here.
They're not out of context. Some of it is as clear as day. I've read all of the Bible and parts of the Quran and no matter how many times a dumbass like you tells me "oh no this violence right here isn't actually violent you're taking it out of context" I won't believe you.
You have literally just been completely brainwashed to believe mindless drivel and even believe that because this MANMADE THING says that it supports science and progress that it actually does. It does not do the things you have said. It does not accurately describe the way a baby develops (it actually gets it wrong) and all of the things you tell me it does describe and could not have known without divine knowledge it predicts in EXTREMELY primitive wording which can be interpreted differently. That's the core issue.
If God is apparently the author of all of these ideals and the creation of all of us why the fuck would he use such a roundabout and vague way to let only a portion of humanity know that he exists and is our creator? You fully ignore blatant untruths and mistakes because it's apparently divine and then you still cite the bits where it may be vaguely correct if you interpret it the way you personally want to.
Which is it? Is it the one thing you need as a human that tells you how to live, how you were made and what happens later or do you choose to follow some parts and not others because of personal choices? Get a fucking grip you brainwashed cretin.

I just googled Jannah vs Heaven and found this immediately. I haven't read it all but it seems interesting from the proposition it makes at the start.

| Quote: | | Let us first examine some of the major differences, and then we will prove that Muhammad granted the Bible of today as genuine. Thus proving the Biblical Heaven is the original established Heaven and that the Islamic conception of Jannah must be abandoned as a later type of imposing forgery. |

good job completely missing the point of what i said. reading what you said would have been a waste of time because it is pure crap from someone who is abhorrently mistaken and misguided.
@up2
how so? ignoring his post isn't 'ignoring information', because he provided none, he started off saying something completely incorrect so i knew flat out the rest of what he said was going to have the same, nonexistent, basis. why would i want to tire myself with that /actual drivel/?

| Care to tell me how I'm horribly mistaken or are you going to be a hypocrite in that regard too? All you've done is say I'm wrong with no information given and attack me.

except i did tell you lol.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise#Islam
In the Qur'an, Paradise is denoted as jannah (garden), with the highest level being called firdaus. The etymologically equivalent word is derived from the original Avestan counterpart, and used instead of Heaven to describe the ultimate pleasurable place after death, accessible by those who pray, donate to charity, read the Qur'an, believe in: God, the angels, his revealed books, his prophets and messengers, the Day of Judgement and the afterlife, and follow God's will in their life. Heaven in Islam is used to describe the Universe. It is also used in the Qur'an to describe skies in the literal sense, i.e., above earth. In Islam, the bounties and beauty of Heaven are immense, so much so that they are beyond the abilities of mankind’s worldly mind to comprehend.

Thanks, I won't read an entire page of shit unless you are going to tell me the specific part you're trying to get me to read. Like you say it'd be a waste of my time when I know for a fact that the shit you say is mindless drivel that is taken from a manmade book. I don't know for a fact that God doesn't exist, but I do know with extreme certainty that the Quran is manmade just like every other book that people believe every word of in a religious context. You said that you don't know and that's the point of faith, but you cite things trying to argue your point logically as if it isn't about faith too. It's odd.
Do you have a response to the thing I linked?

"I do know with extreme certainty that the Quran is manmade just like every other book that people believe every word of in a religious context"
okay, can you pls share your knowledge, then? what gives you such certainty? and can you explain the scientific foreknowledge, i.e., that an illiterate man from ~1400 years ago knew things that science, still, today is -just- confirming now that we have the technology?
>"You said that you don't know and that's the point of faith"
-extremely deep sighs- you're trying to twist what i've said again
>but you cite things trying to argue your point logically as if it isn't about faith too.
wut? since when does logic not apply to faith? and because i have faith i can't use logic?
>Do you have a response to the thing I linked?
the thing that's not really relevant and that is its own standalone article? i thought you were sharing it, idk, because you hadn't heard the word jannah before and thought it might have some good point behind it? even though there are several errors and it makes conclusions based on absence. there is plenty in it that makes questionable premises.
i had a few things i'd circle or underline to question someone with actual authority, but some of the arguments in that article were question-begging & fallacious.
one great thing about islam is that it is a patient process. you can spend your entire life slowly learning the quran and how to be a muslim, you may do this faster than others due to your interest in it, etc. there is no fixed pace.
i only brought up the word "jannah" because of the uneducated and uninitiated audience, who might think of the word "heaven" only in context as the 'opposite' residence of hell (jahannam).
the word "heaven" can have multiple contexts, i was hoping to clarify that one context of heaven is in accordance with the concept of afterlife-paradise, and that another context, still biblical or scriptural, can be, and is, "the universe".
i wasn't trying to make a case of islam vs. judaism or christianity, which is the point of the article.

I can't see arguments based on faith alone as strong ones. The point of faith is that you don't know and therefore you have these axioms in which you hold to be true and live by it.
It's not a bad way to live if the axioms provide you with some sense of happiness or wholeness... whatever it may be; it should provide you something of value. (We are judging axioms completely based on what the self values and not what the community values)
Axioms are the root of the problem when people argue science versus faith. Yes, science has axioms too; but some of them are based off of not just faith but also reason and supported by evidence.
I'm not saying that just because there's evidence that it's now a fact of the world; I am saying that with evidence, it stands on higher ground than theories without any evidence.
Now, we should probably agree to disagree what constitutes evidence... I'm not going to argue against the unexplained (miracles and whatnot). That'd be a pointless argument.
I, for one, believe in logic. If you can prove to me and show me without a doubt and be able to repeat it, that a Female Goddess clapped her hand and caused like a giant flying spaghetti monster to poop out a planet with living things... well damn... I guess I'm a follower of that religion.
Even though I may not not know exactly how the fuck that happened, and science may not be able to completely explain the event, well fuck it's there and I can't ignore truth.
For now, science is the more logical and more evidence abundant of the two sides. Those who argue for science have a lot more backing them. If a creationist wants to make his/her side more appealing, then instead of arguing their side, they should find more "proof" that a god exists... The Bible is not proof the same was as a textbook for introductory biology is not proof. The proof is the experiments that can be repeated that yield the same results.

"For now, science is the more logical and more evidence abundant of the two sides."
but there isn't sides when it comes to this. so the following point isn't a true point. but i think you said this anyways with your sentence
"the bible is not proof the same way as a textbook"
because this most certainly is the case, they are two completely different approaches to two completely different topics.
religion does not necessitate creationism as a foundation. science itself, and holding the scientific method as something that places something in higher standing, is ignoring the limitations of science and the scientific method. even things we've "proven" with "evidence", even "loads of evidence" in science, we have gone back to "prove" that it was incorrect.
i'd also take up issue with "believe in logic", that's like believing in a hammer...
it seems a lot of "atheists" are unwitting practitioners of scientism and love to make the same mistakes while practising the religion of scientism.

are you really arguing that that is what i am arguing -- or worse, the opposite, that one 'trumps' another?
because you're just telling us how much you're failing to grasp what i said, at this point.
