getting a job and building a rig fixed both of those concerns

You'd be surprised how far acting your actual age goes vs. how you are on these forums. Be part of society and it'll go a long way.

Reading this thread just goes to show that most humans do not care if they are actively participating in a bad habit and something unlawful. Computers are good and so is the advancement of technology, but Windows 10 is a step in a completely different direction that's authoritarian and lies within the ideas of taking advantage of consumers. I don't want technology to go in this direction, so I will resist Microsoft and their illegal products. Windows 10 violates the American constitution, that is shady business and I don't believe in a product that actively goes against the law. You wouldn't support other products that violate your rights and the Amendments would you? Why support Microsoft and voluntary give up your freedom? If everyone just actually took the time to realize this, and began a move towards an open source technology market as a solution and not as just an option, everything would be different and technology would better serve those of us who can utilize it.

Laws of the land are what people support and defend. Just because prohibition was the law of land does not mean it was American.
Besides constitution goes hand in hand with amendments. Any thing made by human is inherently imperfect and needs adjustment as the time progresses and fault in the system become apparent.
Freedom is such an overused word that it has lost its true meaning. Back in the days when credit cards came people said why should I give up my money and use a piece of plastic that anyone can reproduce. Now the use of that same piece of plastic is synonymous with doing business.

May be giving up my personal information is a bad thing. But in order for us to find out the true nature of this beast we have to submit ourselves to a mass experimentation that is facebook, google, apple and microsoft.

If something good comes out of all of this than maybe it is not all that bad. At the same time I give you full respect to hold your personal desire to not install windows on your computer so long as you respect everyone else's right to do what they want with their computer.

Wow that was so much of thinking, must go back to porn site and give out my sexual preference information to pornhub so they can post it online for other's pleasure.

I do respect the freedom of choice, I'm just trying to send the message that Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Facebook are not the only entities that can make technology. Don't buy into this idea that we should become dependent on them, as we have been for decades. There are other options that aren't right in front of our face, we just have to look for it.

OK so if I don't create my profile on Facebook and my family/ friends ask me to share my facebook ID I should tell them about an alternative social media.

When I go to my job and windows 10 is being installed on my computer I should visit network administrator and ask for linux installation.

Whole bunch of microsoft suites must be replaced with open office and if my collegue makes powerpoint I must remind that open office does have an alternative.

Google is the better search engine alternative than weibo or bing. Bing is a product of our friends at Microsoft. Wolfram alpha is a good search engine but they haven't ventured far into categorizing the world wide web. Even on CE forum if you go to the search option it is powered by google.

If I want to buy a smart phone it is either iphone (apple) or android/ blackberry (google).

There is a widescale adoption of personally intrusive products in our day to day lives because they provide the convenience that people are getting used to expecting. Part of the reason why they provide these services is so that they can mine information, sell it and make money off of it. Between job search, recreation, family issues and other stuff that I (and many others) deal in their day to day lives this is the least bit of concern that people have.

Again I am NOT denying what you are saying but just stating the general population's perspective on your viewpoint.

Here's the solution to this problem; proper education and providing students the classroom environments to learn about technology, software, hardware etc. We don't have enough of those classes in America to even teach our students how to utilize these pieces of technology in our lives. We need to teach our kids to program to make things easier for their everyday lives, not how to do just basic concepts in Common Core so they can be prepared for slave wages working at McDonalds. Fuck that. 57.2 percent of high school graduates were participating in the labor force in October 2005.

Our shitty education system needs a massive overhaul. When teaching "birds and bees" or evolution is controversy in this country we can't expect anything better.

This is what people are discussion about our education:

Great post and to the point on what is the real issue with Windows 10 and similar practices going on currently. Sadly, Microsoft and other monopoly companies target the average consumers that they know will either never read the ToS/EULA of things or are just too plain computer illiterate to understand what is happening with their information. Microsoft leaves their wording very open and vague in their updated ToS allowing them legal freedom of basically keeping a full image copy of your system on their server if they so desire. They end sentences in the ToS with things like '.. and more' openly allowing them to collect and store ANYTHING they want. But people are too naive to read into things like that or just don't bother to begin with.

It is not a matter so much of what they collect but the fact that people just openly allow it making themselves entirely vulnerable to much more issues later down the road. While Microsoft has a good track record of never being hacked, they never had a reason to be before now. Now that Microsoft is collecting personal information / data, AND linking it to an alias (your Microsoft account), it makes Microsoft a prime target for hacking because they now house terabytes of useful data for people that are interested in fraud and similar things.

For those of you that have no concern of them collecting your personal data, that's fine and your choice. However I do suggest you think of more then just whats in front of you and rather what can happen later down the road with the information they collect. Microsoft states in their ToS they can collect information from your emails and store them remotely, all while being tied to your account which houses other information. (This account will easily hold your email, real name, address if you buy anything online etc.) That said, if you do use your credit card(s) online, then you are more then likely going to have that stored. If you use your banking online, then that sensitive data will be collected and stored. Microsoft is literally building a full profile of you and your life on their server which is open to being compromised at any point in time.

Not to mention they already stated they will be sharing that information with advertisers to target ads to you. Whose to say those advertisers agree to any rules keeping your information safe/private?

There is a lot more harm then good coming out of what Windows 10 is doing. You just need to take a minute to look at the whole picture.

4th Amendment wrote:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The fact that you don't have a choice with choosing to give up your information on Windows 10 goes against everything, what's the point? It ruins the way the world should work. We should at least be able to fucking SELL our information to these companies.

Can I get a tl;dr for the entirety of page 3?

It seemed like a lot of arguing that'd be entertaining to read, but can't manage to effort to actually bother.

No arguments, just some other facts and opinions of how fucked up the terms of use and policies of Windows 10 are.

tl;dr - GannoK gave his point of view about how bad Win10 is in terms of privacy; I agreed; CEForumMember posted that he is a total bottom to the man. Wink

Thanks, for this and helping me in general programming. I know I never posted in the thread but posting anywhere outside RS is a rare occurrence for me.
