I played about with the release candidate leak but wasn't particularly impressed, especially by the strange Linuxesque start menu system. Has this changed in later releases?

I really dislike the icons for running tasks at the bottom. Is there an option to return them to the normal style where I can see the window title in the taskbar?

Also, what's the performance like in comparison with XP and Vista? I've heard mixed reviews. Most say it's better than Vista, worse than XP, but some say it's worse than Vista. Not sure what to believe.

changing themes doesn't help. you still get that taskbar. can't see any obvious way to get it back to xp/vista style. umm you'll get used to it. with the window shortcuts it's really nice actually. eg. windows + 1 opens up the first button

i've had used for extended periods of time XP and Vista. my specs are pretty good and i found Vista did run significantly slower than both XP + server 2008 which is why i had been using server 2008 SP2 as my main workstation up till last thursday

i installed windows 7 RTM last week and found it's a lot faster than even server 2008 SP2 which was shit fast. tomorrow is the MSDN release date for server 2008 R2 which i am hoping is going to be even faster. the server equivalents have always tended to be a lot faster in the past. eg. server 2003 >> xp, server 2008 >> vista, etc.

You can change so you see the window titles at the task bar, I did it once but I don't remember how..

I don't see how anyone could say that it's worse than XP, unless they're running a Pentium II.

Anyone who says 7 is worse than Vista needs to never use a computer again.

Looks like I'll have to load it into a VM and see what the performance is like for myself.

If anyone works out how to get the text up on the task bar, could you PM me to let me know? Cheers Very Happy

Win7 is definitely the best OS Microsoft has made, hopefully they wont mess it up in the very end or on a Service Pack.
